The Asset Template properties dialog can be used to control behavior of assets.

General

    • Adapter Name is the name of the application module, integration adapter or CAD adapter which creates and modifies assets of this template. Adapter Name cannot be modified. Although Template Manager does not prevent modifying any template, users should not modify integration adapter or CAD adapter templates without first consulting Visionaize Support.
    • Name identifies the asset template. Name and Adapter Name together must be unique across all asset templates. Users are prevented from changing names of integration adapter templates. Names of CAD adapter template can be changed.
    • Localized Name identifies the language specific name. This property cannot be modified. Refer to the Language Glossary topic for more details.
    • Type is a read-only field that is always set to "Template".

Miscellaneous

    • Default Appearance assigns an appearance for each new asset that is created of this type. Changing this value only affects new assets, not existing ones.
    • Folder Type defines the generic object type of all assets created from this template. Folder Type must be one of Group, Object, Marked Point, or Label.
    • Icon defines the icon associated with assets created from this template in Asset Explorer. Icons are created and customized via Icon Manager.
    • Logical identifies if the template is logical.
    • PADL only applies to "Object" type templates. It defines the behavior of the asset via the PADL definition.
    • Tags identifies the tags assigned to this template. Tags are used to group or categorize templates and are used when specifying the search criteria when displaying assets by vicinity.
    • Temporary identifies if the template is temporary.
    • Tooltip Expression controls what the user sees when the cursor hovers over this type of asset in the Asset Window. An expression can be written so that the tooltip shows different attributes. Only attributes that are stored in the V-Suite CORE database or are available through integration adapters are currently supported. Attributes from external data sources are also supported. Expressions containing external attributes may take a non-trivial amount of time to construct, and will instead show a message that data is being retrieved - "Getting Data...", while the expression is being constructed.
    • Valid Children controls which types of assets can be children of assets created from this template. It is an alternate to the Valid Parent field. If the template's Folder Type is "Group", all other templates could be set as valid children. Do not include a template as its own valid child, as circularity may occur. If the template's Folder Type is "Object", only the default 3D element templates can be set as valid children. These include Box, Cone, Cylinder, Dish, I-Shape, L-Shape, Pyramid, RectTorus, Sphere, Torus, and U-Shape.
    • Valid Parent controls which types of assets can be parents of assets created from this template. It is an alternate to the Valid Children field. The user will not be able to create assets using of this template if no valid parent is specified. The parent of an asset must be a workspace or an asset where the template Folder Type is "Group".  The user may select a template as its own valid parent but be aware that once an asset can be a child of an asset of the same type, it will no longer inherit attributes. The parent also controls where assets of this template can be shared. If this asset template is a child of a template that belongs to another workspace then assets of this template can be shared into that other workspace.
    • Workspaces identifies workspaces to which assets of this template belong, and where these assets can be created or modified.  An asset template can belong to multiple workspaces, meaning assets of this template can be created in multiple workspaces if the appropriate access rights have been assigned to the template.

Search Autocomplete

    • Search Enabled determines whether the names of Assets of this templates are populated in the Asset Search Autocomplete dropdown.
    • Minimum Seach Characters indicates the minimum number of characters which must be entered in the Search Bar to populate Autocomplete dropdown .
    • Search Separator Characters is an optional field that, if specified, can improve the search performance when asset names use separator characters. For instance, a company might name assets with dashes as separator, with asset names like "12-CWR-1001-CA1".
