A
Access Right |
Permission for a user to perform a certain action on the V-Suite CORE database. V-Suite CORE supports Project Access Rights and Workspace Access Rights on each Role. |
Align Mode |
Mode that allows users to align the position and/or direction of 3-D Elements. |
Align To Scan |
Repositions the viewer to the Laser Scanner's point of origination. |
Always Up |
Asset View option which sets the viewer to keep the up axis vertical. |
Appearance |
Contains properties like color and transparency. Appearances are used when displaying Assets. |
Appearance Manager |
Allows you to add, delete or edit appearances. The Appearance Manager is found in the Customization tool window. |
Application Frame |
The basic underlying frame of V-Suite CORE consisting of a window, menubar and toolbar. |
Asset |
Graphical object that has customized behavior and may contain user-defined Attributes. An Asset is a further classification of an otherwise general Group or Object. (i.e. Equipment, Pipe Line, Instrument, Corrosion Circuit, Area, Valve.) |
Asset Explorer |
Assets in the V-Suite CORE project are ordered in a structured, hierarchical manner customizable for every project. This structure is displayed in the Asset Explorer. |
Asset Database |
File that contains the project data used by V-Suite CORE. |
Asset Template |
Template defining customized behavior for a user-defined Asset. Asset Templates are managed in the Customization tool window. |
Asset View |
A window where the user navigates and interacts with the 3-D Model and physical data. Multiple Asset Views may be used concurrently. |
Attached Tag |
See Marked Point Tag. |
Attribute |
A property on an Asset describing a certain characteristic. (i.e. Vendor Name, Inspection Date, Operating Temperature.) Attributes are found in the properties dialog of Assets. |
Attribute Set |
Set of related Attributes on an Aset providing information about certain function or discipline. (i.e. Vendor Information, Inspection Data, Engineering Attributes.) Attribute Sets are found in the properties dialog of Assets. |
Attribute Set Template |
Template defining a set of related Attributes. An Attribute Set Template is assigned to a Asset Template in the Customization tool window. |
Attributes Criteria |
Attributes values to be searched for on Assets. Attributes Criteria are defined on the Search Definitions By Attribute tab. |
Attribute Template |
Template defining name, default value, data type, and other properties of an Attribute. An Attribute Template is assigned to an Attribute Set Template in the Customization tool window. |
B
Boolean |
Data type which can only have a value of True or False. Use the keywords True and False to assign one of the two states to Boolean atributes. |
Bounding Box |
When Laser Scan arrows are displayed and selected in the Asset View, view cone lines and green translucent boxes appear to help the user see where the scan is in space. |
Box Manipulator |
A Manipulate Mode tool that allows users to translate, rotate, and change the width, length and height of a Box Element. |

CAD |
Computer Aided Design. CAD files can be either 2-D or 3-D. V-Suite CORE can import and export various 3-D CAD formats. |
Caption |
Text that appears in a Label or a Marked Point Tag. |
Cascade |
Arranges Asset View windows so they overlap. This command is on the Window menu. |
Change Management |
Work process to change the 3-D Model by creating new or modifying existing 3-D Elements to reflect changes in the facility |
Clipping Planes |
A tool used in the Asset View to isolate a section of the 3-D Model for viewing. |
Cone Manipulator |
A Manipulate Mode tool that allows users to translate, rotate, and change the length of a Cone Element. |
Current Reading |
Detailed coordinate information on the point currently measured but not yet accepted. You must accept the current reading before it can be used in any calculations. |
Cylinder Manipulator |
A Manipulate Mode tool that allows users to translate, rotate, and change the diameter and length of a Cylinder Element. |
D
Date |
Data type always represented in the month/date/year fashion. |
Dish Manipulator |
A Manipulate Mode tool that allows users to translate, rotate, and change the diameter and height of a Dish Element. |
Display |
Command which displays the current selection in the Asset View. |
Display Filter |
Used to temporarily change the appearance of Assets displayed in an Asset Window. |
Document |
Any external file can be linked to an Asset. Documents are accessible from the Asset properties dialog. |
Double |
Numeric data type represented as 64-bit (8-byte) double-precision floating-point numbers ranging in value from -1.79769313486231570E+308 through -4.94065645841246544E-324 for negative values and from 4.94065645841246544E-324 through 1.79769313486231570E+308 for positive values. |

3-D Element |
The non-intelligent, 3-D graphical representation of primitives (boxes, spheres, cylinders, etc.). |
Examine Mode |
A navigation mode which simulates manipulation of the model with your hands. See also, Fly Mode, Select Mode, and Walk Mode. |
F
Fixed To 3-D Position |
Property on a Marked Point Tag specifying that the Tag will be fixed to a 3-D position in space and will move as the user moves through the model. |
Fixed To Screen Position |
Property on a Marked Point Tag that specifies that the Tag will remain fixed at the same 2-D screen position as the user moves through the model. |
Floating Label |
3-D Label in the Asset View that is not attached to a point. Does not move with the Model. |
Fly Mode |
A navigation mode where movement functions will move the observer (the user) in 3-D space. See also, Examine Mode, Select Mode, and Walk Mode. |
Frames Per Second |
Displays the current frame rate on the status bar. |
G
Group |
Asset that can contain a collection of other Assets, such as Objects, Marked Points, and Labels. When defining an Asset Template, it must be either of type Group, Object, or Marked Point. |
H
Hide |
Command which removes the current selection from the Asset View. |
Hidden Line |
An Asset View option where the model is displayed in a special type of wireframe where the lines behind solid objects are hidden. Alternatives to this option are Wireframe and Solid. |
Highlight |
Assets selected in the Explorer change to a light blue in the Asset View to reveal their location. |

Icons |
Graphics depicting an Asset type in the project. |
Inherit Type |
Boolean value to determine if the children of the selected Asset will inherit attribute sets. |
Image Pair |
A set of two digital images depicting left and right views of a site condition and are represented as a database element. |

K
Keyboard Action |
When in examine mode, press the CTRL key in conjunction with a mouse action to zoom into the Model or press the SHIFT key in conjunction with a mouse action to pan the Model. |
Knowledge Views |
Displays previously captured Assets in the Asset Window or a specific camera position. |
L
Label |
An annotation that presents text in the Asset View. Labels are fixed to 2-D screen coordinates. |
Laser Scan |
A cloud of 3-D points captured by laser scanning hardware. |
Laser Scan Region |
A cloud of points extracted from one or more Laser Scans inside a predefined box-shaped region in space. |
Leader Line |
In a Marked Point Tag, the line that connects the caption to the Marked Point. |
Level Of Detail |
The intensity of the 3-D graphics drawn on Assets. This setting is adjusted in the user's Local Settings. |
Lock |
For network databases, when more than one person is accessing the property of an object or the object itself, the first person who gained access will have the ultimate control. All others will see a lock icon, an information dialog, or have their property dialog turn into a read-only format. |
Long |
Numeric data type represented as signed 64-bit (8-byte) integers ranging in value from -9,223,372,036,854,775,808 through 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. |

Manipulate Mode |
Mode that allows users to change the position, direction, and dimensions of 3-D Elements. See also, Change Management. |
Manipulator |
A helper tool to change the position, direction, and dimensions of 3-D Elements. See also, Box Manipulator, Cone Manipulator, Cylinder Manipulator, Dish Manipulator, Sphere Manipulator, Universal Manipulator. |
Marked Point |
An XYZ point on the Model. A Marked Point is also a generic type that can be assigned to an Asset Template to define behavior. |
Marked Point Tag |
Label associated with a Marked Point. The option to create a Marked Point Tag every time a Marked Point is created and set its properties is in Project Settings. |
Measure Mode |
Navigation mode for measuring points and distances |
Measurements |
Tool Window which contains controls to perform and analyze point and distance measurements. |
Measurement Snap Points |
When in Measure Mode, this feature will automatically position the anchor to the end, center, or middle of the 3-D Element the cursor is hovering over. Use the SHIFT key to enable snap points while the cursor is over an object. |
Mouse Action |
When using the Fly, Examine, or Select Mode, use the click-and-drag motion of the mouse for various movement and selection options. The mouse action may be used in conjunction with the keyboard action to zoom and pan the Model. |

Object |
Asset that can contain a collection of 3-D Elements. When defining an Asset Template, it must be either of type Group, Object, or Marked Point. |
Orientation Axis |
North-East-Up axis in the Asset Window that guides the user of the view direction in relation to the model. |
Orthographic |
A type of 3-D projection that can be used in V-Suite CORE. In this mode, the view is projected onto the screen by drawing the lines of projection perpendicular to the screen. Orthographic is an alternative mode to Perspective. |
P
PCG |
Point Cloud group file which holds one or more Scan Cloud File(s) and registration information (position and orientation) for each of the point clouds. |
PCI |
The compressed file that holds a Laser Scan Region cloud of points for V-Suite CORE. |
PCS |
The compressed file that holds a Laser Scan cloud of points for V-Suite CORE. |
Persistent Search |
Searches that are stored within the project for later use. For Persistent Searches, activate the Search Tool Window and enter the appropriate Search Definitions. |
Perspective |
A type of 3-D projection that can be used in V-Suite CORE. In this mode, the view is projected onto the screen such that parallel lines appear to converge in order to give the illusion of depth and distance. This is how the eye views a scene in real life. Perspective is an alternative mode to Orthographic. |
Physical Data |
Raw data collected in the field containing relative 3-D locations, shapes, and dimensions in the form of Laser Scans, Image Pairs, and Survey Data. |
Primitive |
In V-Suite CORE, primitives are known as 3-D Elements. |
The read-only view in which users work if they don't make changes to the database. The contents of the Production View are updated when Work In Progress (WIP) is published. |

Project |
Database containing information about Assets and Physical Data. |
Project Access Rights |
Permissions to make changes to objects that affect the entire project. These include the Customization, Import/Export, and Project Settings Access Rights. |
Project Settings |
Preferences for a network database. Anything edited in the Project Settings will affect all users of the network database. |
Properties |
Information describing characteristics of objects stored in the Project. Properties are visible in the properties dialog. |
PTC |
The compressed file that holds a Laser Scan cloud of points for RealityLINx 5.3 or below. |
Publish Work in Progress (WIP) publishes changes in the WIP to a new (the latest) Product View |

Query String |
The "English readable" format of combining the attribute with logical operators and values when performing a search by attribute. |
Quick Search |
Searches that are not stored in the project. Quick Searches are based on criteria similar to Persistent Searches. |

Reading |
Detailed coordinate information on a point or distance measurement. |
Region Select Mode |
Allows the selection of multiple items in the Asset Window. See Single Select Mode. |
Role |
Group of Access Rights to the V-Suite CORE project. Users are assigned to one or more roles, giving them permissions to view workspaces and make changes within them. |

Saved View |
see Knowledge View. |
Search Definition |
Criteria defined in a Persistent Search based on different attributes of Assets in the project. |
Search Results |
A collection of Assets which match the citeria of a search. Search Results can be used to create Display Filters. |
Seek |
Navigation mode that recenters the Asset View to the selected Asset. |
Select Mode |
Navigation mode that allows the selection of Assets in the Asset Window. |
Shared Asset |
Asset which is accessible in one workspace but was created and resides in another workspace. Users can only change the appearance of shared assets. The asset is controlled in the source workspace. |
Sharing |
Action by which a user drags and drops an asset from one workspace to another. This action gives users of one workspace access to the asset while still maintaining control in the source workspace. |
Single Select Mode |
Allows for the selection of an item one at a time. |
Snap Points |

Solid |
Asset View option where the model is displayed with solid surfaces. |
Source Workspace |
Workspace where an asset was created. |
Sphere Manipulator |
A Manipulate Mode tool that allows users to translate a Sphere Element. |
Spin Animation |
If checked, continues movement in the direction that the model is moved without having to hold down the mouse button. Movement is stopped with a single click in space. |
Standard View |
View that repositions the Model so that you are looking at it from the North, East, South, or West. |
String |
Data type consisting of letters and integers. The integers cannot be used in a calculation. |
Survey Data |
The XYZ point information as related to the East, North, and elevation of the targets placed in the site work area. |

Tag |

Tile |
Arranges Asset Windows as non-overlapping tiles. |
Tool Window |
Fly-out windows providing easy access to Knowledge Book, Customization, Search, Display Filters, Measurements, Catalogs, Precision Manipulator, Physical Data, and Asset Creator. |
Treeview |
See Asset Explorer. |
Triangle Count |
Displays the number of triangles and points currently displayed within the view window on the lower right-hand corner of the status bar. |

Universal Manipulator |
A Manipulate Mode tool that allows users to translate and rotate a group of 3-D Elements. |
URL (Uniform Resource Locator) |
Internet address usually consisting of the access protocol (http), the domain name (www.mydomain.com), and optionally the path to a file or resource residing on that server (trade). |
V
Valid Parent |
Any Asset of type Group in the Asset Explorer that is higher in the hierarchy and can pass on inherited attributed sets to its children. |
View All |
Asset View command which rescales the view such that the selected item is centered in the view and fills the view window. |
Visionaize Enterprise Server |
For network databases, the Visionaize Enterprise Server must be installed. It controls the relaying of data in a multi-user environment. |
VNF |
V-Suite Neutral File. V-Suite file format to support interoperability between V-Suite Asset Databases and other CAD and Plant Design Systems. |
W
Walk Mode |
Navigation mode that is representative of the user physically being at the same level as the Model with the ability to look up, down, left, and right. |
Wireframe |
An Asset View option that allows you to see through the model. |
The view in which users perform changes. Multiple users can work in the same WIP view and multiple WIP views may exist at the same time. Users who work in the Production View will not see changes in the WIP view until the WIP view is published. |

Workspace |
A discipline specific organization of the Asset Database. A database can contain multiple workspaces with each having its own set of Assets, Knowledge Views, Search Definitions and Display Filters. Users can access workspaces by belonging to a role. |
Workspace Access Rights |
Permissions to make changes in a specific workspace. These include viewing, sharing into, and create/modify/delete Knowledge Views, Search Definitions, Display Filters and Assets that can reside in the workspace. |

Zoom Selection |
Asset View command which zooms the Asset Window to the extent of the current selection. |
Zoom Region |
Zooms into the selected region outlined by the rectangle drawn as the user clicks on the mouse and drags to draw a rectangle. |
