The Linked Security Group offers a dynamic way to manage user memberships within V-Suite by leveraging your existing external (typically Active Directory) groups. Just like a standard security group, a Linked Security Group determines which application functions its members are entitled to perform. However, instead of manually adding users to these groups in V-Suite, the Linked Security Group automatically populates its members based on associations with external groups.

You can add a new linked security group via the Entitlement application. The Entitlement Application can be accessed via the System Administration icon on the V-Suite home page.

Click the new linked security group icon. This displays the New Linked Security Group form which lets you specify the following:

  • A list of Linked External Groups
  • Security Group properties
  • Security Group permissions

Linked Groups List

Use the Linked Groups list to associate one or more external groups to a Linked Security Group.

  • To add a new external group to the list, click the Search Directory button. This action will open the Select Linked Group dialog, where you can search for and select the external group you want to associate.
  • To remove an external group from the list, click the Delete icon in the Action column.

Security Group Properties

A linked security group has the following properties:

  • Group Name - The name of the security group. This field is required and must be unique.
  • Description - The description of the security group. This field is optional and may be left blank.

Security Group Permissions

A linked security group has one or more application permissions. Click the Permissions Tab to define the application permissions for the security group. The Permissions Tab displays all supported V-Suite  applications. For each application, you will be presented with one or more application permissions. Select the application functions that members of the security group are entitled to perform.

Be aware that the Linked Security Group functions differently from the standard Security Group. Unlike the latter, you cannot manually assign members to the Linked Security Group. Members are automatically added based on the selection of associated External Groups.

Once you've made your selections and associated the desired external groups to your Linked Security Group, click the Save button at the top of the form. Doing so will initiate a process where V-Suite retrieves the list of users from the associated external groups. These users will then be automatically saved as members of the Linked Security Group, ensuring the group's membership within V-Suite reflects the current state of the external groups you've linked.
