Users can attach a V-Suite Neutral File (VNF) to an existing V-Suite Asset Database. Attaching a VNF is not the same as "importing" a file. Importing a file would read the file, transform the data and store the transformed data in one or more database tables. Attaching a VNF however, only stores some VNF meta data and a reference (or pointer) to the VNF. The VNF is stored as a single object inside the Asset Database.

Because attaching a VNF will store the VNF as a single object and will not populate thousands of database records it can be attached or detached relatively fast and users will be able to observe VNF Asset information within minutes rather than hours.

You can attach a neutral file via the Neutral File Tool Window.

While storing the attached VNF as a single object offers performance advantages, there are limitations as to what users can do with asset information stored within the VNF object. It is for example not possible to establish relationships between VNF asset information and data stored in the Asset Database and it is not possible to modify the content of an attached VNF. The following limitations apply:

    • Users cannot modify attached assets.
    • Users cannot create a knowlegde view containing attached assets.
    • Users cannot apply a display filter for attached assets.
    • Users cannot use the existing asset search function to search for attached assets.
    • Users cannot place a Marked Point on an attached asset.

Users can access the attached asset information via the Attached Asset Explorer.
