Best Fit Single Mode

This mode creates Steel using a single point selected in the Asset Window and then fitting a 3D Element / Asset to the surrounding point cloud data.


Best Fit Single Mode to create a single Asset

  1. Display a Laser Scan or a Laser Scan Region.
  2. Select an Asset in the Asset Explorer which is to be the parent of the new Asset.
  3. Choose the Assisted Steel Modeling Tool () by:
  4. Clicking on the Assisted Steel Modeling Tool button on the Asset Window Toolbar.
  5. Using the Assisted Modeling menu which can be found on the Asset View Menu.
  6. Using the default keyboard shortcut “F8”.

  8. Choose Best Fit Mode () in the Assisted Steel Modeling Dialog.
  9. Identify a point belonging to a Steel. See Picking Points for more information.
  10. Create a 3D Element / Asset by:
  11. Pressing SPACE to create the default 3D Element / Asset.
  12. Choosing the 3D Element / Asset to create in the Assisted Steel Modeling dialog.
  13. A new 3D Element / Asset will be created, added to the Asset Explorer, and displayed in the Asset Window.
  14. To model another 3D Element / Asset the user can either:
  15. Click on another point in the Asset View which automatically clears the current marker.
  16. Press ESCAPE to clear the current marker and reset the Assisted Steel Modeling Dialog.
  17. Click Clear () in the Assisted Steel Modeling Dialog.
  18. Tips for optimizing best fit steel performance
  19. If the seed point is chosen on a flange (top or bottom), select the point close to the edge of the flange.
  20. If the seed point is chosen on the web (middle), select the point in the middle (away from the flanges).
  21. For increased consistency, clip points not belonging to the asset.
  22. For increased consistency, select the point near a dense area of point cloud data.

  12. Choosing the 3D Elements / Assets to create in the Assisted Steel Modeling dialog.
  13. Multiple new 3D Elements / Assets will be created, added to the Asset Explorer, and displayed in the Asset Window.
  14. To model additional 3D Elements /Assets the user can either:
